Planning and Preparation Part I

Planning and Preparation Part I

Nothing helps me more in planning than a deadline…so I set a tentative leave date from Australia.  In late 2012 I thought that March of 2013 would be realistic. My actual departure date turned out to be October 0f 2013.  Not because things went awry…but in the end it just made sense and it allowed me plenty of time to get myself organized.

Airstreams are new to me but I’ve been drawn to them since I was a kid.  I knew that if I was going to be touring the US in a trailer, it had to be an Airstream.  So I started to review the different models and finishes that Airstream offered.  Visually I have an eye for a modern and minimal style and knew I wanted to have that in the Airstream. The International Signature series matched my design ethos. So what next…new or used? How big? I had a lot of questions…

Anyone who’s considering buying an Airstream or even “Armchair Streaming” should check out the Airforums website:

In it you will find the answers to most of your questions and if you can’t find it, there are Airstream owners there to help with any questions you have.  I’ve found it invaluable and have been reading it for over a year…and although I’m a new owner, I feel much better prepared having done my research through the forum.

In the end I chose the International Signature 27FB (FB=Front Bedroom). A twenty-seven foot trailer may seem large for one person but I was drawn to it for the walk around queen size bed.  I didn’t want to fuss with making a bed in a tight squeeze if I’m living it the trailer full time!
